My friend Nina and I recently attended the Kobe Biennale. The purpose of this "art festival" was to get various artists to examine the power and potential of art within the confines of a limited space (a shipping container, measuring 40 ft length (deep), 8 feet wide, 8 feet tall). There were over 60 various containers exhibiting the winners of the "Art in a Container", Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) displays, and local school children's paintings. It was a great event and I was so happy to have gotten the chance to attend it. I so often keep myself busy that I forget to take time and appreciate the artist talent that resides here in Japan. It was nice to gain a new sense of inspiration and to break out of my "routine".
Below are just a few of my favorite containers that we saw....
Part 2. November 2
We were told that new pieces would be introduced into the festival within a months time. As we were so blown away by our first visit we were more than willing to come back a second time to view the new pieces. Much to our disappointment, very few new pieces were introduced and as we went during the early afternoon rather than the evening like the time before we felt that a bit of the mystique was taken away as well. Needless to say we were not quite in the mood to review the pieces again. So we enjoyed a beautiful, warm day in Kobe instead!
