Baby It's Cold Outside

Every work day I wake up, make my coffee, fix my bed head hair, pick out my outfit, and then rush out the door. During the winter time, when its painful to have to get up out of your nice, warm bed, I keep my double curtains shut most of the time to prevent any extra heat leaving or any form of cold to enter my small apartment. This being the case, I usually never really know what the weather is truly like until I walk out my door (not a great method, but you know I like to make things difficult for myself), I can't always rely on the weather forecasts because sometimes they LIE! However, this Wednesday morning I decided to open my curtains just to see if it was raining (my weather forecast told me to expect 'precipitation') and to my surprise it was completely white outside!

It was a good thing I checked prior to my usual dash to the train because in this weather dashing is just not something one should do on an icy road. Even with my careful walking I almost fell about 4 different times! Lucky for my agile, cat-like skills or else that would have been a great start to the day!

Apparently 11cm of snow fell in Kyoto today!
In the area where I work, Fushimi, it tends to be slightly warmer and snow hardly ever really sticks when it falls. Well, to the happiness of my elementary school kids, the snow stuck for a good portion of the day enabling them to partake in snowball fights throughout the day. It was really fun watching such a heavy snowfall, too bad I had to walk 30 minutes in it to get to my school. Nevertheless, as a southern Californian it was still wonderful to have such a snowy day! I am not gonna lie, I was tempted to call into work today just so I could enjoy a snow day. But, as I am such a good, hard working English teacher, I decided not to deprive my students of a day with Toreshi Sensei. Haha! Like they cared, they just wanted to play in the snow! And they wonder why 'L' and 'R' sounds are hard to pronounce.
