The Joys of ENGRISH

Engrish, not English, eng"r"ish is just a little something that you become accustomed to after living in Japan for a while. Engrish refers to the grammatically incorrect variations of the English language. To see this is effect, get a Japanese person to tell you the difference between "lice" and "rice"! Those tricky "l" and "r" sounds get them every time. I hardly take notice of it anymore, which worries me slightly as I will be returning back to California in August and the phrase, "I love dog" doesn't phase me at all.

(some very important moss)

With that being said, there are some outrageous phrases written on t-shirts that you cannot help but take notice of! And the most surprising thing is these "special" shirts is that it is not adults that are wearing them, but the elementary school kids that we teach (please see photo below).
(Photo taken by my friend Nina at one of her elementary schools.)

Now, what is a cute, little 3rd grader doing wearing a shirt like this?! hahahaha. I think what makes shirts like this even more funny is the kids that wear them. It tends to be the kids you would least expect. Case in point, yesterday, in my 6th grade class I had this sweet, soft spoken girl wearing a shirt with big, bold print saying, "Don't Fuck With Me! Get Out!" I actually had to stop teaching to fully read her shirt. And of course this girl pairs this shirt with, a little frilly skirt and a bow on top of her head. Oh Japan.
