At times I forget I am time zones and 5,282 miles away from my California home. What with email, skype, and blogs I feel almost completely up to date with all the ongoings state side. Yet the past couple months have brought nothing but consistent reminders that even with all the technological conveniences some things are just easier to deal with in person.
Recently my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Actually, it was only I that found out semi-recently due to computer problems inhibiting skype from working properly, therefore my only means of communication with my mother was through email. Well, being the strong lady she is, she withheld her diagnosis from me because she didn't want to scare me with a long, drawn out email. So I was about a good month and couple weeks behind everyone else. Turns out, it didn't really matter if she told me through email or on the phone because I still freaked out!
Anyways, during the past month she has been undergoing various consultations, doctor visits, a lumpectomy, and only just last week she underwent a mastectomy. Through it all she has been her amazing self. Actually, go figure, she was more concerned with not being able to make it out to Japan next month for a family visit (Oh Mom.). As calm and cool as she was when she would update me, waiting for the various "after surgery/consultation" emails or phone calls was horrible. This is where I must say how lucky we are to have such great family and friends because they were by her side (and sending me news and comforting words) every step of the way!
That being said, I am happy, actually, wait, change that, ECSTATIC to report that her mastectomy went well and yesterday her final tests on her lymph nodes indicated that she is now completely cancer free!!!

On behalf of Mama O and the us other 3 Oshiros we just wanted to thank everyone for all their beautiful flowers, cards, emails, and words of support and solace. (I especially wanted to thank you, Auntie Becky, Anty Pam, Auntie Gail, Uncle David, and Uncle Gary from the bottom of my heart.)
And with this happy news I thought I would close this post off with my Mom's favorite song (seriously she LOVES this...),
